FAQ: Understanding the Fort Worden Hospitality Closure

1. Is Fort Worden State Park closing?

No, Fort Worden State Park is not closing. The park, including its campgrounds, trails, and beach access, remains open to the public. You can still enjoy walking your dog, hiking, camping, or taking a cold plunge as usual.

2. What is Fort Worden Hospitality, and how is it different from the State Park?

Fort Worden Hospitality (FWH) was a local nonprofit that managed lodging, food and beverage services, and event venues at Fort Worden. It operated separately from the State Park, which is managed by Washington State Parks. While FWH is ceasing operations, the State Park and its associated facilities, such as the campgrounds, remain unaffected.

3. How does this closure affect my upcoming event or reservation at Fort Worden?

If you had a reservation for lodging or an event venue with FWH, they will contact you directly with more information about next steps.
Unfortunately, all reservations after January 16, 2025, are canceled. For guests needing alternative accommodations or venues, QEC has prepared Accommodation and Venue Guides to help you find local options.

4. Are other organizations on the Fort Worden campus affected?

Organizations such as Centrum, Northwind Art, and other campus partners have contracts that are separate from Fort Worden Hospitality. Their operations are unaffected by this closure, though there may be indirect impacts related to event or venue services previously managed by FWH.

5. Is my camping reservation at Fort Worden still valid?

Yes, camping reservations are managed directly by Washington State Parks and are not affected by FWH’s closure. You can still enjoy camping at the park as planned.

6. What happens to the Jefferson County Wedding Show scheduled for March 1, 2025?

Fort Worden Hospitality and Washington State Parks are working collaboratively to transfer the rental of the USO so the wedding show can proceed as planned.

7. Will Fort Worden venues reopen under new management?

The future of Fort Worden’s venues, lodging, and food and beverage services is uncertain at this time. Washington State Parks and other stakeholders are exploring solutions for the park’s future operations. Updates will likely be shared on fortworden.org.

8. What if I believe I am owed a refund for a canceled reservation?

Fort Worden Hospitality is responsible for contacting affected guests about refunds. If you have not heard from them, you can reach out to their team at [email protected] for more information.
